HONG KONG (AP) – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he has no plans to return to the ring, although he remembers his professional wrestling career fondly.
“I retired five years ago,” Johnson told reporters Thursday while promoting his new Disney movie “Race to Witch Mountain” at Hong Kong Disneyland.
But the former Worldwide Wrestling Federation star said he enjoyed the exposure his stage character “The Rock” gave him.
“That was a character I loved playing. That gave me the great opportunity to move on and to transition. That created a platform for me that can never be duplicated,” he said.
Johnson blended in with the family crowd at Hong Kong Disneyland, appearing in the park’s daily parade in a float shaped like a castle alongside Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto.
“Race to Witch Mountain” – in which Johnson plays a taxi driver sucked into an adventure by two teenage aliens – is his second recent Disney movie after the 2007 comedy “The Game Plan.”
“When you do family movies right, then every member in the family can relate to a character in the movie, which is something we take a lot of pride in,” Johnson said.
Johnson’s movie credits also include “The Mummy Returns,” “The Scorpion King” and “Get Smart.”
“Race to Witch Mountain” will be released in the U.S. on March 13.
